I was on Reddit today, and I saw a post with that title. This is what the CTO, with around 30 years of experience, said:
“With AI tools like Claude Code, there is no real difference anymore between a junior and a senior engineer, or between a mobile developer, backend developer, and infrastructure engineer. If you have access to AI, you should be able to do any task assigned to you.”
Really?
The comments were outraged. I am as well.
With over 20 years of experience, I’m outright ashamed of this CTO.
As of 2026, AI is a tool. I’m not saying it won’t get better, but as of today, it’s just a tool.
I tried to make several apps with just AI, and they were full of bugs and security concerns. It then had the nerve to tell me that it was going for speed....
I love AI and what it has given back to me: time.
However, as of today, it is not the same as a seasoned architect.
